About the Role:
Reporting to the Controller, the Corporate Accountant is a key member of the Corporate Finance Team, assuming a tactical role in the overall financial administration of the organization through actions supporting the Mission, Vision, Values and policies and procedures of Kerry’s Place Autism Services. Responsibilities may include:
- Assists in preparing and presenting the monthly performance report, ensuring that all variances are disclosed and the appropriate strategies to address them are included in the report
- Coordinates the development, monitoring and maintenance of budgets
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations
- Develops financial business plans and forecasts
- Remains up to date on GAAP, non-profit laws, regulations and audit best practices
- Ensures maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial procedures
- Coordinates audits and is a key point of contact for external auditors; Manages preparation and supports of all external audits
- Ensures legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions
- Reviews all month-end closing activities including general ledger maintenance, balance sheet reconciliations and corporate/overhead cost allocation
- Serves as final point of escalation for Accounts Receivable/Accounts Payable issues
- Prepare annual consolidated financial statements
- Prepare annual pension & financial audit schedules
- Prepares year-end audit working papers
- Assists in development of adhoc financial planning and analysis exercises/report
- Other duties as assigned
Education Qualifications:
- CGA, CMA, CA, designation
- At least 5 years accounting experience as a senior accountant, preferably in a non-profit organization with a budget of at least $7 million or equivalent business experience and 10+ years of progressively responsible experience for a major company or division of a large corporation
Knowledge and Experience Requirements:
- Experience in a senior financial-management role, partnering with management staff, resulting in the development and implementation of creative financial management strategies
- Experience in, or knowledge of, non-profit accounting, including fund and grant accounting and MCCSS/MCYS compliance and reporting
- Business principles and techniques of administration, organization, and management to include an in-depth understanding of the key business issues that exist in the social services industry
- Business office operations as it pertain to third party billing and reimbursement activities in a managed care environment
- Mid to Advanced spreadsheet knowledge
- Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning, problem solving, organization skills, team work and interpersonal skills
- Oral, written communication skills and ability to identify and implement best practices
- French language skills will be considered an asset
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- A valid Driver’s License, with a minimum G2 and access to a reliable vehicle is required
- Ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision and within prescribed timelines
- Ability to be flexible and motivated in dealing with a fluctuating and unpredictable workload
