About the Role:

Reporting to the Manager, Services and Supports, the Autism Consultant is responsible for providing Autism-based services to support persons of all ages, their families and communities. The Autism Consultant provides assistance with increasing knowledge, capacity, and navigating supports within the Autism service sector, based on individual goals. Responsibilities may include:

  • Follow established Community Services practices and provide support in line with Mission, Vision, and Values and Strategic Plan of Kerry’s Place
  • Fulfill responsibilities as an Autism Consultant across various programs
  • Consult with and maintain positive working relationships with supported persons, families, agencies, community groups, and other key contacts, including children and youth with multiple and/or complex special needs, including responding to complex situations and supporting navigation of relevant referrals
  • Work collaboratively with various agencies and community groups as well as the internal team to support identified goals on an ongoing basis
  • Develop, review, and update plans in collaboration with all relevant parties, including submission to community tables for review, approval, and update, within required processes and timelines
  • Act as point of contact and support navigation of systems to assure supported persons get the timely and effective services they need to integrate fully at home, at school, and in their community
  • Develop and support tracking of allocated budgets and other sources of funding, including review, approval, and tracking of invoices for payment, in alignment with approved plans
  • Arrange, chair, and attend case conferences and meetings to achieve positive outcomes for supported persons with ASD
  • Provide support/facilitation in group settings for persons with Autism, family members, agencies, and community members
  • Document and maintain electronic client files in a professional, thorough, and consistent manner, as outlined in record keeping procedures
  • Support community capacity building through attending events and provision of education/training, supporting others to gain understanding of Autism and Kerry’s Place services and supports
  • Represent Kerry’s Place at external community tables, committees, and/or events, as needed
  • Ensure the health and safety of supported persons in accordance to Ontario Regulation 299/10 Quality Assurance Measures, the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, and the Provincial and Municipal regulations and by-laws
  • Other duties as assigned

Education Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Human / Social Services

Knowledge and Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum 1-year experience working with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other disabilities in a community-based setting, as well as; 
  • Experience working with families and community agencies, as well as demonstrated knowledge of formal and informal resources available 
  • Experience implementing evidence-informed support strategies for people with Autism 
  • Understanding of human development and healthy relationship dynamics, as well as support approaches found to be helpful in support to individuals with ASD 
  • Basic understanding of Child and Family Services Act, Services and Supports to Promote the Social Inclusion of Persons with Developmental Disabilities Act, and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, and other relevant legislation 
  • Ability to support self-advocacy and empowerment for families
  • Demonstrated ability to work respectfully and effectively with individuals and families from diverse backgrounds, including but not limited to cultural, spiritual, and heritage differences, as well as varied gender identities, pronouns and lived experiences
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office tools (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and client data base systems or a willingness to learn and apply these skills effectively

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: 

  • Must have the ability to physically support children, youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Must have the ability to complete the Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification, as well as perform the required physical techniques. Training will be provided at no cost
  • A valid Driver’s License, with a minimum G2 and access to a reliable vehicle
  • As a condition of employment, employees must be able to provide a Driver’s Abstract in good standing with fewer than three demerit points
  • Ability to travel as required 
  • Position requires flexible hours including evenings and weekends
