About the Role:

Reporting to Director of Human Resources and Organizational Development the Manager of Training, Health, Safety and Wellness will be responsible for the plans, policies, programs, and practices in the areas of occupational health and safety, corporate training and development, and employee wellness. The manager will be responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of all programs related to the above by partnering with our clients and collaborating with key internal and external stakeholders. Responsibilities may include:

  • Through actions, supports the Mission, Vision, Values, Strategic Plan and core competencies of Kerry’s Place
  • Reviews and adheres to all Policies and Procedures, including: Finance & Administration; Services & Supports; Human Resources; Health & Safety, and all other
  • Ensures compliance by regularly reviewing applicable health and safety legislation, regulations and industry standards
  • Reviews, develops and implements occupational health and safety programs and training across the organization
  • Collaborates with department leads to identify specific corporate training needs
  • Develops communication plans and toolkits to ensure successful implementation of programs and training in collaboration with Communications as required    
  • Participates in the Infection, Prevention and Control (IPAC) committee and jointly implements and communicates safety protocols for staff
  • Reviews ergonomic concerns and workplace job hazards and develops corrective actions/ preventative measures to mitigate future risks
  • Provides guidance to the Joint Health and Safety Committees (JHSCs) and ensures adherence to committee duties and responsibilities
  • Collaborates with external training providers, consultants and subject matter experts to offer specialized training and develop occupational safety programs as needed
  • Develops and executes wellness activities, campaigns and challenges that engage employees and encourage participation
  • Collaborates with internal and external resources to provide tools, support and resources for employees to improve their physical well-being and support their mental and emotional health 
  • Utilizes a variety of training methods and technologies to ensure the delivery of impactful and effective training initiatives based on the needs of the audience
  • Assesses and evaluates the efficacy and maintenance of corporate training and development initiatives and identifies opportunities for enhancement
  • Collaborates with managers and supervisors to identify performance gaps and training needs within teams
  • Oversees and provides support for the Kerry’s Place learning management system (LMS)
  • Maintains existing corporate training and seeks to improve, create and add new training initiatives, resources and programs
  • Reviews trends and causes of workplace incidents, accidents, injuries and illness; identifies root causes and partners with programs and services to offer solutions to prevent reoccurrence
  • Ensures we meet our targets and milestones for health and safety, corporate training and development and employee wellness as it relates to the strategic plan of the organization
  • Prepares/reviews reports on a regular basis as required by management and regulatory agencies
  • Reports metrics and analytics along with supporting rationale to EMM and the Board
  • Other duties as assigned

Education Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in related field or equivalent experience Certified Disability Management professional is an asset
  • Member in good standing of the Human Resources Professional Association (HRPA) or similar professional association or relevant work experience

Knowledge and Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Health and Safety or Wellness role
  • Certified Joint Health and Safety Committee Member or willingness to become certified within 6 months
  • Expert knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and solid proven knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code, Risk Management programs, and other legislation and best practices
  • Previous experience in the Health Care and Social Services sector or the Service industry is considered an asset
  • Ability to foster collaborative relationships at all levels of the organization with a focus on fostering a culture of safety prevention, awareness and education
  • Action driven and committed to continuous quality improvement
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, listening and presentation skills
  • Proven organizational, planning and time/project management skills
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and HRMS and LMS systems
  • Ability to handle highly sensitive information with absolute confidentiality and professionalism
  • Strong consulting, mentoring abilities and attention to detail
  • Excellent team work skills, problem solving and leadership skills
  • Self-motivated, self-directed and demonstrates a strong work ethic

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: 

  • A valid Driver’s License, with a minimum G2 and access to a reliable vehicle is required 
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision and within prescribed timelines
  • Ability to be flexible and motivated in dealing with a fluctuating and unpredictable workload
