New Regulation for Behaviour Analysts

As of July 1, 2024, a new regulation has come into effect for Behaviour Analysts to be regulated by the College of Psychologists of Ontario (soon to be the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario). The Government of Ontario mandated this new regulation in 2023 to improve safety and address the risk of harm to vulnerable Ontarians receiving ABA services.

With the new regulation coming into effect, Ontarians can now have the confidence that anyone practising as a Behaviour Analyst is competent to provide safe, quality care and is accountable to a regulatory body for maintaining the standards of practice of the profession. The public can also access a robust complaints process that will hold Behaviour Analysts accountable for their professional behaviour.

ABA is the application of the science of learning to understand and improve behaviour that is meaningful to the person and those around them. ABA can help increase helpful or functional skills (e.g., communication) and/or decrease behaviours that are harmful or interfere with learning (e.g., self-injury).

As an organization that provides ABA services, Kerry’s Place adheres to these regulations, ensuring all relevant staff are registered.
